Top 3 Steak Marinades for BBQ
Marinating your steak is the perfect way to tenderise your meat, and is a great way to try out new flavours. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy a juicy steak, and impress your friends with a meal that’s full of flavour, then here are three recipes for you to try! Note: These measurements are per 500g of steak
Classic Marinade
If you’re unsure of where to start, why not try a quick and simple, classic marinade?
Ingredients
- 60ml balsamic vinegar
- 2tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 60ml olive oil
- 1tsp salt
- 2tsp fresh, finely chopped oregano
- 1/2tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2tsp fresh, finely chopped thyme
- 1/4tsp onion powder
- 1 minced clove of garlic
- 500g steak
Method
1.Whisk the balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
2.While still whisking, gradually add the olive oil and mix until well combined.
3.Stir in the salt, oregano, pepper, thyme, onion powder and garlic until well combined.
4.Place your steak in a resealable plastic bag or lunch box and pour the marinade over, making sure the meat is well coated.
5.Seal the bag or box, and leave in the fridge for 2 hours before barbecuing the meat.
Lemon and Garlic Marinade
Looking for a tangy taste to your meal? Well, look no further! This lemon and garlic marinade is full of flavour!
Ingredients
- 10 peeled cloves of garlic
- 270ml olive oil
- 1tsp salt
- 1tsp pepper
- 350ml lemon juice (4 lemons)
- 1tbsp dried oregano
- 500g steak
Method
1.In a small saucepan, simmer the garlic cloves and olive oil over a low heat for about 35-40 minutes, or until the garlic is a golden brown colour.
2.Strain the garlic through a sieve. Keep the oil for later.
3.In a small bowl, mash the garlic, salt and pepper and mix together to form a paste.
4.Spread 1tbsp of paste over the steaks and place them in a sealable plastic bag or lunchbox.
5.In a large bowl, whisk the lemon juice, the oil from earlier and the oregano.
6.Add this mixture to the container with the steaks, making sure the meat is well coated.
7.Leave to stand for an hour.
8.Remove the steaks from the marinade and barbecue.
9.After cooking the meat, spread the remainder of the garlic paste over the steaks and leave for 5 minutes before serving.
Mexican Marinaded Steak
This simple Mexican-inspired marinade will give a spicy kick to your steak.
Ingredients
- 4 jalapeño peppers, seeded and stemmed
- 2tsp minced, garlic
- 1tsp black pepper
- 1tbsp salt
- 60ml lime juice
- 1tbsp dried oregano
- 500g steak
Method
- 1.Blend all of the ingredients bar the steak.
- 2.Place the steaks and marinade in a sealable plastic bag or lunch box, making sure the meat is well coated.
- 3.Seal the bag or box, and leave in the fridge for 2 hours before barbecuing the meat.
